Conservatives haven't been right about Iraq yet in ANY significant fashion, I think everyone would agree. No WMDs, nukes, popular democracy, insurgency isn't in it's last throes, "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" was nonsense, we weren't greeted as liberators, etc.
The president said we would take the fight to the enemy. Guess what, he was right. The Iraq’s voted for their own government and overwhelmingly like it, the insurgency is on the run, from Iraqi forces too (even Zarwari wrote he was concerned to the point of leaving Iraq if things don’t change), the majority of Iraqi people were glad the US took Saddam down, currently want them to stay until the Iraq force can handle security on there own and I don’t think anybody expected a parade down main street for the US.
It’s true that no stock piles of WMD were found (and it should be noted that the size of a WMD stock pile would fit inside a two car garage) but the David Kay report list several UN violations of concealment of bio, chemical agent efforts and equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, advanced missile technology, prohibited fuel propellant and laboratories all that Iraqi scientist have disclosed and were told to conceal. His report also concluded that along with conducting illegal R&D activities Saddam was posed to and could start up his WMD program in a two-month time frame to produce mustard gas and one for anthrax at any given notice.
And according the Conservatives, it ALL went according to plan, until we find ourselves here. Stay the course, etc. What the hell kind of plan that is I don't know, but it wasn't a very good one.
It’s a fact the war didn’t go exactly like planned. Mistakes were made and when you try a fix them you get blasted for it. The current democrat opposition to the surge is stay the course so what good is that other than a political move? The thought of wars executed exactly as planned is fairy tale, there are always adjustments to wars, but to the democrats it means failure.
And there's much more of an indication the surge won't work, either, in the middle-term. The insurgents will melt away in the face of temporarily superior firepower and be back the minute the US forces backs are turned.
Well that is the reason for the change in policy, to try and keep the insurgents from returning.
So, let's just bookmark this thread, and see if for once Conservatives are correct, democracy will prevail, and Iraq will be free of nukes, WMDs, and the various national interests will work together in harmony as an example to the rest of the Middle East of the Bush Doctrine's success.
No need to bookmark this thread, I’m not in competition with anyone, just trying to point out things. For me it’s not a matter of if, but the desire to win.
The war in Iraq comes down to whether you want to win the fight against al Qaeda and show terrorist that we will not take their terror of killing Americans and people around the world and will hunt them down or leave and tell all the terrorist that they can continue there quest to destroy the US and it’s allies.
