"Rumors of War"
It seems to me that Iran has a legitimate interest in seeing the US doesn't have puppet regimes and a strong military presence on her borders in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was logical and foreseeable that Iran would support Iraqi resistance.
It seems reasonable to me that Bush will use the only tool his ego can tolerate, force. He is scared to death to demonstrate the flexibility diplomacy requires. Flexibility in methods, that is, not necessarily in outcomes. He views that as weakness, preferring to order, threaten and bluster rather than work toward a reasonable solution.
Now, if the US attacks Iran, which seems likely, there is another front on this war. Or several more. A physical front, and an economic front. Will Iranian troops invade Iraq? What will Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates do?
Will they all support their Arabian neighbors, will they support kindred religious factions, or will they support Americas efforts to establish hegemony over the area?
Bush and the US was warned there would be chaos. And Conservatives didn't care, because all they heard was what they wanted to hear. And that's ongoing.
