I co-moderate this particular board (Current Events), and I'm personally pleased to finally see a genuine climate scientist in the Habitable Zone.
You may have not looked around much since finding this place, but the long-time inhabitants run the gamut from the completely disinterested, through the scientifically curious, to the genuinely rabid -- on both sides of the issue. You've run into one of those latter already, as I'm sure you've discerned.
Among others, you will find here a handful of professional geologists with an interest in applying their knowledge to other planets -- a field I personally call 'comparative planetology' *. You may find interacting with them interesting, as the outcome may also apply to interpretation of certain data from Mars as being palaeoclimatological. Our "Space Science" board is the place for that -- but we also absorb Earth science there, too (more planetology).
By the way, I've had RealClimate bookmarked for a couple of years now, as a research resource for a 'future Earth' science fiction novel.
One more comment: You said "A lot of people get very upset because they think scientists are telling them what to do about their lifestyles." A lot of other people get very upset when they think science -- or any other field of study, like economics or sociology -- is telling them what they've already done was wrong. Therein, IMO, lies the motus operandi of the deniers.
[* -- thus avoiding the conundrum of "xenogeology", since the prefix "geo-" applies to Earth.]
