A few comments:
The Balkan War was not approved by the U.N., and fewer nations participated in it than in the invasion of Iraq. The word "unilateral" has pretty much lost all meaning in these discussions.
Would have loved to see how Europe would have handled Bosnia on its own. It would have been a refreshing change.
We had no troops in Afghanistan or Iraq when New York and Washington were attacked. Isolation needs to be bilateral to work.
Nobody wants to believe that they will come after us if we stay home and keep our heads down. Nobody wants to go where that line of thinking leads.
Still, pulling back to our own borders and letting the world see what things would be like if the EU had to be the world's policeman, or if China decided it wanted to be, is tempting to me on my off days.
