I'm buying a brand new hybrid Prius this weekend. I'm not in love with the body style but it's time to buy a new car and I have three major reasons for choosing this one:
1. I will be doing my small part in reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere. It's easy to talk the talk but I'm now going to walk the walk as well. While looking at Malibu's I had a nagging at my conscience... Global warming is not just something for other people to fix, I must do my part. I am now less of a destroyer of the earth.
2. I will be doing my small part in reducing America's dependence on Islamic oil. As long as our nation must get a large portion of it's energy from non democratic, clan-ruled tribal societies whose religion is bent on destroying our way of life we will never have true homeland security. I feel it is my patriotic duty to do my part in weening America from Middle Eastern energy dependence.
3. 60 miles to the gallon in the city, 55 on the highway, will save me about $900 a year in gas. Not a lot but when matched with a $3000 tax write off, and a 100k mile/7 year warranty I have direct personal benefits to compliment my global and patriotic concerns.
I know the 2009 models will have some significant upgrades but I can always trade in later and I need a new car now.
