No Tom, I didn't stick it out. I found a way out before my enlistment was complete and it could be in no way construed as an honorable method by society's standards. I managed about 5 years of a 6 year enlistment before I could no longer take supporting an organization I believed corrupt and very likely leading to the destruction of our planet. ER got to see 2 years of military life and at that stage of my enlistment things were still tolerable for me.
You have no clue as to the complexity of this issue and no idea as to the horrific changes the experience can bring to one's life. My experiences were during "peacetime" and affected me profoundly and I can only imagine the types of conflicts that are going on in young men and women today with bullets and bomb fragments flying. Anyone that is quick to judge their actions by black and white thinking needs to spend some time in their boots.
