"String-nets" and the electron as a constant receiver
Using this idea, Wen and Levin postulated something incredible: what if electrons were not fundamental particles, but merely the ends of long strings of other "true" fundamental particles? With this idea, the pair developed a new model for matter where it was made up of these strings woven together to form what they dubbed "string-nets."
They are pointing out that the electrons move and demonstrate that they are connected to something else. Anyone who has read Atomic Vortex Theory should be somewhat familiar with the concept. However, I coined the term "atomic vortex" to describe the properties of electrons and particle movement around the nucleus as part of a field of energy. "String-nets" doesn't nearly as well convey the real picture. The particles indeed are connected by streams of energy, but electron spin and charge is a function of the data being delivered along these streams, which is what they have attempted to prove.
What they are saying is that something is still missing from the picture. How can electrons hold half a charge? The answer (which is obvious of course ;-) is that the electron is a grouping of waves that is being fed data and its spin is the byproduct of polar field interaction with other parts of the atom. The 1/2 charge electrons have less wave forms with a negative bias.
The second link to the white paper was written in typically obfuscating style, but the paper proposes that experiments with special antiferromagnets that have two side by side electrons with the same spin (which is unusual because spin usually works like gears in a watch) are good research starting points to find electrons fueled by 1/2 spinons rather than 1 magnons. Spinons are particles that carry the spin of the electron and are part of the conceptualized spin-charge separation within electrons under certain conditions. A magnon is a quantum spin wave and found in magnetic materials influencing electrons. To sum up, they are saying that their experiment shows there is something more to the way the electrons are spinning than has been previously assumed and that "gapless excitation" is observed. THis means the electron is in direct contact all the time with some sort of flow of energy that determines its spin.
If one sees that the universe is infinite, and that all energy is in constant motion, one sees that all particles at any moment are receiving input from some other source. Not only are the electrons part of a string, but the atom itself is part of a string, or as I put it - a larger atomic vortex. If energy doesn't begin or end, it makes perfect sense to have an electron that is receiving a constant influx of data and to have that electron share this energy to other structures constantly. Non-terminating flows of energy. From a macrocosm view our planet is like an electron as it swings around the solar system, and the solar system around the galaxy...and the galaxy through the material universe...and YES...even our known material universe is very likely just the point on a string of other universes which is fed by universes around us, spawning atoms and channeling energy endlessly through an infinite spectra. It's quite simple and beautiful: endless energy.
It's a great little discovery and will lead to much bigger and better work in the future.
