I watch the same press you refuse to watch, and I've never had any doubt in my mind that Saddam was a first class SOB who deserved a lot worse than hanging. I've never had any doubt in my mind that the regime in Iraq was a horror that deserved to be overthrown, I learned all this from the press, the mainstream media. I also learned all about the weapons of mass destruction and the other things that weren't there because the MSM dutifully reported what was coming out of the White House. And you know, during all the time I was following the lead-up to this war I never once saw anything I could interpret as a deliberate attempt to try to turn public opinion against it. And you will recall, at the time I supported the war, I would have been very sensitive to that type of propaganda. I did see a healthy skepticism to
administration press releases, which at the time I felt was prudent, and which I now see was nowhere near prudent enough. I'm sorry TB, but you have got it wrong. And I feel like a fool because I was misled by my own government as much as I was, in spite of the fact that I consider myself pretty skeptical and capable of reading between the lines.
You know, the ironic thing about this is that amongst my circle of lefty friends and acquaintances (a limited, non-representative sample, to be sure) I detected a sense of renewed national pride and an anger at our 9/11 enemies and that now we were going to kick some butt and avenge our dead. Here, at last, was a fight we could get behind, one where there was no question that we were in the right, in spite of what those idiots at the UN who refused to listen to Colin Powell thought.
And what did we get for it? We were betrayed, lied to, insulted, humiliated, dismissed as irrelevant and uncaring, again and again, by these arrogant blow-dried wimps who had somehow commandeered my country. And for what? The nation's in a terrible mess in a dozen ways, our enemies are still unpunished, our dead still unavenged, and the situation so totally screwed up that it will take us a decade to even break even again. And a skeptical and irrational leftist reaction to the conservative dogma has now arisen that will make impossible any sort of mutual, reasoned response to the nation's problems. And I blame the administration's policy of deliberately driving an ideological wedge between the American people to promote their own domestic agenda for this. And for what? For what?
The one thing we can know for sure is that this debacle is wholly due to those responsible for it. After six years of squandered goodwill and totally unopposed control of the nation the truth has now become undeniable and the blame obvious. Of course you're glad there's an alternative media. That's the only place your world-view can be found intact anymore. Don't mistake that for a mainstream media conspiracy.

The press already did it.
