I remember writing something about Katrina, but I must've deleted it while rewriting. Needless to say, it was in perfect agreement with your observations. The appointment of a craven political hack like "Heckuva Job" Brownie evidenced a tragic disdain for government service and a desire to see government fail to validate RightWing ideology. Ditto the appointment of people all across government who had an ideological disdain for the agencies they managed.
For example: Jon Stewart's interview with Jon Bolton was a classic because it revealed the guy to be a complete moron whose only apparent qualification for the post of UN Ambassador was his hatred of the UN. Total Loyal Bushie. Total disaster for America. Listen to the guy expound on a classic far-Right philosophy of government, in which the Prez's responsibility is to satisfy the people who voted for him by packing government with ideological clones, and Congress and the other half of the American people can just pound sand.
