Zeppelins

Just read the book "Hindenberg" by Michael Mooney. Fascinating. Some facts I found interesting.

The Hindenberg had made 10 successful round trips to the US. The Germans had established regular zeppelin service to Rio de Janerio, having made 18 round trips the year before.

He "Hindenberg" had a payload of 20 to 25 TONS, and travelled at 80 mph. They had travelled around the world, across the US, and tended to fly at between 800 and 3000 ft. AGL.

The 125 to 150 civilian ground handlers were paid $1 per hour, so the landings were scheduled for either 6:00 AM or 6:00 PM so as to not have them standing around for hours. Sometimes it would fly around for 8 to 10 hours waiting until the next landing time.

I hadn't realized exactly how successful they were.
