I'm sorry, but, "(I've talked to Filipinos, Cubans and Puerto Ricans who do not remember the US as particularly harsh masters"... what does that supposed to mean? All of those countries had representatives... ok, call them representatives, dictators, WHATEVER, they did not complain WHILE their countries were in ..."TRANSTION". So be it, Cuba didn't come out of it in flying colors as many did. Read my words, Cuba did NOT come out of it as many did. Good grief, Puerto Rico doesn't have to pay any U.S. tax, but has a democratic government thanks to the U.S. of A. That's right, thanks to the U.S. of A. they are a democratic government.
Harsh masters? You have no idea. They should live under Castro to experience what a "harsh master" is like.
