Bolton is still right.

What happened over there is pretty clear, Iran took the sailors because they sincerely thought (probably mistakenly) they were invading their territory. It was almost certainly an on-the-spot decision by a local commander and Amawhatchmacallit didn't even know what was going down until it was all over.

That's the story--written largely by Western apologists, incidentally, not Iran itself--and they're sticking to it.

The Iranians, whatever faction they belonged to, knew damn well what waters they were in, and the capture was organized and quick.

nobody got tortured.

I've heard that from many different sources recently. Sometimes it's almost the first line in a story, post or comment.

The British hostages were blindfolded, lined up, and guns were cocked behind their heads, as though they were about to be shot.

When a prisoner in Abu Ghraib was stood on a box, hooded, and wires that were connected to nothing at all were clipped to his body, this became a worldwide iconic symbol for horrible torture.

The isolation and psychological pressure used in U.S. interrogations is routinely and incorrectly called "torture," here and in many other venues.

Me? I'm just watching the bar go up and down...
