To some people, the only thing that counts in a conflict is that there was no violence. Meek surrender is as acceptable a result as a bloodless victory.
Bolton is right. Britain was tested, and once the test was over, the hostages weren't much use any more. It's obvious that Iran could have easily kept them for as long as they kept the American hostages back in the 1970s, with no greater consequences.
Some commentators here have said the United States should learn a lesson from Britain's handling of the detainees issue in respect to the standoff over Iran's nuclear programme.
And how is the "soft power" approach been working on that issue? After the U.N. had thrown every Nerf ball they had in their arsenal, Iran has not changed one damn course of action on their nuclear program.
