To be very clear: I have not read up on the guts of the Vista OS, and OS's in general are not my forte. However, what it appears that MS has done with Vista is to create a set of privs over the File System, Services and Processes (and processes themselves) that are 'above' any user or administrator. IE, there is infrastructure running on the box that is completely out of the control, supervision and access level of od any person who is legally, perfessionally and operationally responsible for what is done on the machine.
Whats worse, is that the 'owner' of that access and those processes is not clear. To some extent, its MS... To some extent its the 'Premium Content' its supposed to protect.
And where it gets scary, is that (as always happens with microsoft), once these services, processes and privs get 'owned' by hackers or bugs, I don't see how the physical 'owner' of the machine can ever recover or re-secure the machine.
So basically, I will never use Vista for any personal or professional stuff that I can possibly avoid. I've reached the end of the line with Microsoft.
