I've seen some pretty good stuff done with TrueSpace. After POV, it was the first 3D program I had, probably back in the 486 days, but I never gained any skill with the modelling tools. Recently, I've been taking my first looks at Blender, which is open source freeware with a different modelling paradigm. Some of the posted renders are quite impressive, and as with POV, there is a large and active support community. Also free and available is GMax, a non-rendering derivitive of MAX 4, I think, and widely used in the gaming community for modelling.
At this point, I'm weighing my alternatives with Vista. To be fair, there are some impressive features. This new box only has a 3.0 winscore, so I've turned off most of the eye candy. To make a fair evaluation, I've got to do some further testing, especially in the audio realm, where I've seen a lot of grousing about Vista.
I'm beginning to lean toward making this box a dual-boot machine with XP and Vista. Do you have any experience with that process, either specifics or generalities?
