I need to 'get this off my chest'. This is the perfect post to say it in.

My neighbors of 7 years have been going through some tough times. They have 2 teenagers and 1 pre-teen.

2 months ago, the 16 year old boy tried to commit suicide.
I thought the mother was down playing the severity of the situation ...but I thought it was working itself out. They got the boy on anti-depressants and into therapy.
Last Friday as it turns out, the Mother was admitted into the hospital for severe depression and threats of suicide. As it turns out, she has threatened suicide on numerous occasions.
The husband came over today, and told me that they were separating. He was taking his boy with him, and the 2 younger ones(girls) are staying with the mom. Evidently the Mother has disliked the boy since he was 2. She has hit him, [and she has hit her husband..]. she has been derisive towards the boy and completely intolerant. As he relayed the whole ugly story to me, tears ran down his cheeks. This is a hard working, kind, gentle attentive father and husband who has been devoted to his family. He told me his side of the story because he is leaving and wanted me to keep an eye on his wife. He knows she will tell me her side....he was very forthcoming, and even said that he made things worse because he had an affair 2 years ago....he did not sugar coat anything.*sigh*
I genuinely perceived this family as completely "Normal"...and relatively happy...my god what is normal anymore?
I am so sad. You just never know....you simply never know.
