I think spending hundreds of billions a year housing violent savages is the wrong way to do it. Prison guards are hurt and killed every day watching these animals. Liberal judges are always letting them out on parole so they can go hunting for victims again (the two men who raped and killed the mother and two daughters were on parole at the time). Many people are maimed and killed every year by escaped prisoners.
IMO, criminals should be given no quarter. I'd like to see a no nonsense approach taken with crime. On the first offense all violent and predatory criminals would be put to death. Non-violent felons would be given hard labor on their first offense and sentenced to death if they commit another crime.
As for non-felony crimes, public humiliation could be used on them for their first offense. For their second offense, they could be sent to a workfarm to repay society for their destructive behavior. On the third offense, corporal punishment would be fitting for them. The crime in question would dictate how many lashes from a cane they would receive. If they come back for a fourth time, then they've shown their uselessness and should be disposed of with a shot to the head.
If a system like that were put into place, I highly doubt crime would be a major concern for most Americans.

- A tragedy. But why do you think capital punishment would have prevented it? (n/t)
