This little tete a` tete is barely under the wire.
Here, let me explain this as an analogy to you.

A local man (a politician) is murdered while sleeping. The local police (thinking the fugitive is holed up on Dixon Street), goes in as a SWAT team and starts shooting when the fugitive moves. In the shootout, a father, mother, and grandmother are shot dead, and the son is gravely wounded. But the baby crawls away, and later is found alive. We'll call her little Debbie.

Investigations are underway in the light of day and we find the local SWAT team has hit the wrong house. What they actually saw as a flash in the dark, was the father's watch glimmering in the moonlight lifting to turn the light on. No mention is acknowledged by Mayor Tech1, because for some reason, the SWAT team was "doing their job."
None stand trial, or lose their rifle priviledges.

And actually, the little girl Debbie REALLY IS doing allright. She's such a cute little thing, and she has the freedom to move all around her new home at the adoptive agency and the SWAT team.....well most got promoted, none stood trial and everyone's clapping as Mayor Tech1 drives by (at least in own mind), throwing flowers in his path.
Press releases say everything in grand in Techville.
