The flip side of "Nightfall."

I suspect there are many such stars. The "voids" in our universe are not what they've been painted as in SF. I recently read an article on more small "galaxies" that were part of the Milky Way system, and it said that in fact, the space between our galaxy and Andromeda has quite a few single stars in it.

As to your speculation, since nobody on such a planet would ever know that the night sky SHOULD have stars in it, nobody would really care.

The sad part of that is, such a civilization, even if technologically advanced, might never have the incentive to build the kind of instruments that could "see" far enough into the void to detect the galaxies far beyond visual range.
