Some classic media hype out there

As happens all too often, the media hype started to overshadow the science, in headlines like "Gigantic Alien Structures Found Orbiting Nearby Star!!!". Uh huh.

Despite that it is really an intriguing find, just a hint really, of a maybe possibly real discovery. I'll be awaiting the first radiotelescope observations soon, but I can predict that a failure to find a signal can't be considered definitive, since our own experience with electronic communication is that we get better and better over time at controlling our emissions and not wasting energy on extraneous radiation to space. I wouldn't expect somebody capable of building world-sized megastructures to be sloppy about their comm use.

Ask a billionaire how he got rich, and the stereotypical answers is "one dollar at a time". I'd say you get to be a Type II Kardashev civilization capable of deploying vast energies by learning not to waste energy.

You might be surprised to read me say welcome back, but nevertheless. Feel free to drop by Community and fill us in on what you've been up to these last few years.
