before I start to get wordy, you might be informed by a quip that was made by a Canadian columnist, when commenting on the self-congradulatory noises made by various Canadian politicians upon the naming of Canada as number one on the list of nations on the UN Human Development Index.

"Canada is better than average, at being average"
and I could add, mighty proud of that fact.
