Why not?

Seriously, Tom, why not?

Could your sensitive bias radar detect that Rupert Murdoch's Daily News is trying desperately to incite more anti-Liberal hatred? Did you watch the Fox "News" interview on which their manufactured outrage is based? Did you notice that the tiny little clip of this dean speaking skips right over the interviewer's question, whatever that was, and makes him, instead, the foil for the voice-over's sly little insinuation: "...and telling Fox News who else they would invite".

How stupid does a person have to be to fall for that crap? As hard as Murdoch's people worked to take the comment out-of-context and twist it into something sinister, his meaning was still clear:

"If Hitler were at the League of Nations...[corrected himself]...if Hitler were in the United States..."

C'mon, Tom, even a Winger should be able to figure out that he was commenting on the general case of a head of state visiting the United States on official business. In spite of the malicious editing, he made clear that such a visit is a legitimate opportunity for academics, students, and the public to cross-examine a public figure. Only in the paranoid world of RightWing smears is that cross-examination guaranteed to be friendly. The dean stressed: "If he were willing to engage in a debate and a discussion, to be challenged by Columbia students and faculty, we would certainly invite him".

You just hate freedom of speech and intellectual inquiry.
