What's happening ain't working. The US is raising hell with Iran in all manner of ways, Syria any way it can, sponsoring Israel, for instance, and despite all of Pakistan's efforts the Taliban is stronger than ever and al-Qaeda is bleeding the US dry.
Read "State of Denial", or "Cobra 2" and then talk about the moral high ground, how effectively Pakistan is fighting for US interests, how Syria and Iran are unreasonable, irrational parts of the "Axis of Evil".
If the US can support Musharraf it can certainly use Syria and Iran to help re-stabilize the Middle East. Iran and Syria have more at stake than the US. As a matter of fact, with the US in Afghanistan and Iraq, if I were Iranian I'd be raising a hell of a lot more hell than they have. As a matter of fact, they've helped in both areas.
Or, it can keep doing what it's been doing and keep getting what it's been getting.
