Anyone who has read the history of the war in Iraq knows that war with Iraq was desired by the principals even before the 2000 election, was decided upon before 9-11, and when WTC occurred it was used as the excuse.
One has to wonder about all the preparations for a war with Iran. Or at least massive attacks.
The economy is headed into the tank. Not only is the worst of the credit crunch coming, but the US economy and SUV drivers will have massive troubles with $90 oil. As Bush's term winds down, conditions in the Middle East get worse and worse. Foreign investors in the US are losing money rapidly as the dollar weakens and weakens. Bush's printing money to protect domestic lenders contributes to further weakening the buck, and he can't print it fast enough to prop everything up.
The domestic economy will worsen, rather rapidly I think, as the cost of living goes up, energy costs much, much more, and inflation starts to rise.
Nothing like a big, big war in the Middle East to take folks minds off things, dominate the headlines, and possibly precipitate a "Guiliani", whereby the current administration decides it is too necessary to leave in 2001 and hijacks the country with the approval of the Supreme Court and the guns of Blackwater.
A conspiracy? Yep. Possible? Yep. Within the moral character of this administration? Of course.

They decided to go to war in Iraq 2 years before the invasion.
