You know, those horrible capitalists you hate so much have been very good to astronomy.
Yerkes Observatory was funded by Charles T. Yerkes, who ran the trolleys in Chicago
Andrew Carnegie funded Mt. Wilson
Howard B. Keck funded the Keck Telescopes in Hawaii
Paul Allen has funded the Allen Array
The Allen Array is especially note worthy as the government thinks searching for ET is a waste of money, having cut all funding off years ago.
I could go on and on about how those rich greedy capitalists you despise have funded other major science projects - often ones the government has refused to fund. Even the Noble Prizes scientists value so much were created by a greedy capitalist.
Perhaps having a meteorite or Moon rock on their shelf will cause another greedy rich guy to think about astronomy when looking for a new charity to support. So don’t think about it as a theft from science, think about it as an investment in the future of science. Or would you prefer science stay on the public dole for ever as just another welfare program? And that science funding decisions are made only by government bureaucrats?
