Had to research it for a debate I did in High School. I won the debate and remember arguing it with a male friend and actually changed his mind on it.
I know it's tempting to say, "Yes, but, let's have it in the case of mass murders, or in the murder of cops or..." But you can't be against it and be for it in certain instances. Either we have the right to murder in the name of the law or we don't. Personally, I don't think we do. And it serves little purpose other than costing us a lot more money while appeal after appeal after appeal is made and then having to keep them in special places in solitary, etc. Put 'em away for life. If they're a mass murderer, they're psychotic, so put them away for life in a facility for psychotic crazies.
Or lock all psychotic crazies up together where they can't get out but have access to one another, no guards. The last man standing gets life in a regular prison. That could make a fun story. :-)
