Will the free market at long last realize its promise of promoting excellence instead of mediocrity?

Not sure where you've been living, but the free market has produced the best of almost everything around you. I don't know what the world's most excellent car is, but it ain't the Yugo.

Collectivist countries are pretty good at manufacturing things other people have created, or making steel, but show me the last major world-wide technological invention that came out of China.
