Reforming the violent with violence

This is a worthwhile discussion for further introspection. If we look at history, the world's oppressor's have been beaten back with violence - and violence in excess of their own.

The British were eventually met by superior forces and resigned from the effort to hold the colonies.

Kaiser Wilhelm found his warring ways matched when the US allied with the beaten nations of France and Britain to overwhelm his meticulously planned conquests.

The Nazis were met with overwhelming force in the same manner.

The Japanese Empire was also dissuaded from a culture of violence almost completely by experiencing two atomic bombs on their shores.

History illustrates that to weed out the most violent psychopaths of the world - you simply must use violence in excess of that which the psychopath possesses.

This, of course, poses interesting conjectures. Is it possible that a few well placed atomic explosions around the world would bring about peace for all time? Would Japan's experience be mirrored by other states that oppress others and restrict human freedoms, including religious expression?

Is centuries and centuries of cold wars and small hot wars inefficient? Will it kill more in the long run and cause even more suffering? Is it true that the only thing violent savages understand is getting beaten mercilessly with no hope of reprieve or recovery?

The humanitarian is repulsed by such a notion. It is barbaric beyond all possible comprehension. And, yet, at the same time history illustrates the truth of such an assumption and one must ask oneself whether or not one is truly harming others more by allowing the violent oppressors of the world to persist in their oppression for centuries, glass ceiling the lives of millions - no - billions into a hellhole of inequity, slavery and cultural imprisonment.

Some say who am I to change the lives of others? And yet our nation was founded on such interference in the machinations of oppressors. It can be argued that our nation was designed to free others from oppression when we are able to - and we are now more than able to. Others feel free to oppress, kill and persecute. America is needed to counter these folks and restore freedom to the masses of the world.

Ideally, we do so by example most of the time...but when that fails and when circumstances cry for action to defend our, and others, freedoms and we are able to, we owe it to human history & posterity to strike down the forces of oppression and to do so without pause.

It's not hypocrisy. There is a difference. There are those who want to blur that difference and make all violence equal. Those who do so are the true usurpers of freedom and the promoters of darkness. They are either ignorant or craftily using good for evil ends. All violence is not equal. It has never been so.

Intent is everything.
