I'm afraid the question doesn't have quite the knockout power you might have envisioned.
If you were trying to make the case that Christians have never behaved violently toward the Middle East...well, I hope not, that would be the ultimate "counterfactual". I'll bet you can think of examples of Western violence in the Middle East from recent memory.
Like, today, in Syria. I'll bet there were drone strikes in half a dozen countries in the Middle East today, too, where "Crusade" has come to mean a drone buzzing overhead.
With all the plausible Republican candidates promising war with everybody in the Middle East, an Apocalypse from Iran to Syria and Afghanistan, Libya but hopscotching over Israel...is it maybe a little premature to declare the West's peaceful intentions and moral superiority?
