I watched about 6 episodes somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd season, but couldn't get past all of the improbabilities. It drove me crazy that Jack could drive all the way across L.A. in 15 minutes the same day a nuke exploded and everything else that happened that day. Then the fact that Jack and a couple of guys on the street were able to wipe out a "cleaner squad" with a couple of deer rifles. It wasn't worth my time.
For the record CSI drives me crazy too. Turn on the freaking lights and you might be able to see some evidence that your flashlight missed! (My wife kicks me out while she watches it, because I ruin the show for her.) Who knew you could recollect all the points of light from the reflection on an eyeball in a 3.5" snapshot and return an image of the murderer using your fancy CSI computer program. Sheesh.
Shows don't have to be real for me to enjoy them, I just don't like the way some shows expect the audience to be so dumb, that they can get by on lazy writing.
I like LOST because they are at least up front about the suspension of disbelief. The writing has an intricate weave, and the suspension of disbelief is part of the mystery.
The best new show on television which is apparantly cancelled was Journeyman. That show was awesome and had some excellent writing and a fun premise. The mystery was also there as we tried to figure out the physics and control of the journeys. Sadly I'm afraid its over.
Law And Order is a quality staple, that somehow never gets old for my wife and I. Though we never got into Criminal Intent the other shows have been fun to watch over the years as we see parralels to the headlines.
