As someone who works with municipal databases and GIS every day, I'm amazed how these CIS-type shows manipulate their computers to display vital information on the fly. If a kidnap victim's cellphone in the trunk of a car picks up the sound of a train, the investigators can quickly summon up railroad schedules, sound prints of every locomotive in the civilized world, street maps, satellite images and GPS coordinates to quickly triangulate the position of the car, as well as the detailed floor plan of the abandoned building it just pulled into and all the utility lines leading into it. If some data is secured in some secret Pentagon database, the geeky guy or Goth girl at the keyboard quickly hacks into their computers to retrieve the information. Of course, the ability to ID a suspect from an eyeball reflection of a license plate from a security camera 3 blocks away is already old hat.
The forensic squad of my local police force has lunch at the same deli I do every day and they're all a bunch of balding, middle-aged fat guys, not the leggy blondes and GQ dudes you see on TV.
And when, oh when, is someone going to take out that pompous twit Horatio Kane once and for all? I'd pay good money to see that.
