Yes do.
Bean's origin is an amazing story. Also, if you like the character Petra, you get to see a lot of her.
The only criticism I have about the Bean books (and I guess it's a criticism of Card in general) is the easy way a genius can game out a battle or a war (or a social movement, or the effects an anonymous essay will have on the populace and the government, etc, etc, etc)and have everything go exactly as they plan it. It's a theory of warfare that requires an author's hand, basically, to cheat for you. There's never any fog of war for the geniuses. Opponents never do what you do not expect.
