Sweet

I sure hope the movie is finally produced. Like I said, I recently reread it, the 1991 edition with an intro by Card in which he talks about hearing from fans and what it meant to them, and I understood it, because it had the same personal impact on me. Some classics, like Dune, are "brain favorites" for their intellectual power, but Ender's Game is a "heart favorite" for a lot of people. Card heard from smart kids who'd gone through the alienation that Graff did deliberately to Ender, but which happened to so many real kids at the hands of merely thoughtless adults. We forget that in the culture of children, being different, whether good or bad, "special" or "gifted", dooms a kid to isolation and torment. Children are xenophobic, and they're hard on those who don't fit in. Ender was a special kind of hero to a lot of people, not because he won the war, but because he won the respect of his peers and became their leader.

I'll bet that if we took a poll, Ender's Game would be near the top of the list for a lot of Zoners.
