I like to think I see both sides, but I'm biased.

I do go to council meetings, its part of my job, and you can take my word for it that it's not just a bunch of liberal flakes pursuing pointless nonsense, or ruthless bureacrats trying to extend their hold on the community. All I see are guys in suits: lawyers, lobbyists, contractors, trade unionists, consultants, public relations hacks and trade association flunkies, politicians and businessmen, lots and lots of businessmen, all trying to either get their hands on public funds or trying to find a way to avoid contributing to them. They fight, they form alliances, they compete, they shift and flow but they all have one thing in common: they want more, they never seem to have enough, and they don't care what they have to do get it.

I have working class roots, I was taught to play by the rules, do useful work well and the world would reward me. I was trained in the sciences, I was taught that the world is amoral, but is not malicious. It was my task to do good work and play fair and if I did so conscientiously I would be rewarded, not with the potential for infinite wealth, but with a minimum of security and justice.

Yeah, I'd fight too, if I thought I could find a side that wasn't in it strictly for themselves.
