all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.
Endowed and granted are similar verbs aren't they? And it's the Creator who interferes in the Declaration of Independance!

Belgians are not "created" equal but are equal before the law.
Besides, I wrote the "system" grants us rights, not necessarily thinking about a state but about institutions (like social security, banks, etc) that help us.
