I found the Belgian constitution quite instructive.

It's a classic example of what I alluded to elsewhere, the obliteration of the concept of political versus "positive" rights.

Everyone has the right to lead a life in conformity with human dignity.

...These rights include notably:

--the right to employment and to the free choice of a professional activity in the framework of a general employment policy, aimed among others at ensuring a level of employment that is as stable and high as possible, the right to fair terms of employment and to fair remuneration, as well as the right to information, consultation and collective negotiation;

--the right to social security, to health care and to social, medical and legal aid;

--the right to have decent accommodation;

--the right to enjoy the protection of a healthy environment;

--the right to enjoy cultural and social fulfilment.

--Education is free; any preventative measure is forbidden; the repression of offences is only governed by law or decree.

...

--Everyone has the right to education with the respect of fundamental rights and freedoms. Access to education is free until the end of obligatory scholarity.

--All pupils of school age have the right to moral or religious education at the community’s expense.

All of these "positive rights" are things that must be provided by human skill, time and effort (don't ask me what the hell the "right to enjoy cultural and social fulfilment" means.)

If these are "rights," they must be provided even if the recipient can't or won't pay for it. Does this simply mean enslavement of the providers?

Oh, no, the "community" pays the providers! But the "community" has no money, and by definition, neither do those who can't pay for all these things. It seems that the productive and those who create surplus wealth must pay for it all. Where else will the money come from?

Oddly, these productive wealth generators tend to be the very same people who grow the food, build the homes, work in the schools, or provide the medical care or legal knowledge.

Neat, isn't it?

You can follow the money flow as easy as I can, once it's pointed out. But such societies count on their people never taking it past the surface level. Taxes are collected, largesse flows out, and those in power get the credit for being kind, generous, and "progressive."

A liberal politician can get awards for his social generosity and human kindness without a single nickel ever having to leave his own pocket. Meanwhile, the businessmen and others who generate the very wealth he rides on are condemned as selfish bastards.

"All power emanates from the Nation."

No shit.
