You are probably thinking of the Rajneeshpuram from the early 80's. Different part of East Oregon as well as the opposite end of the political spectrum. The Raj actually did try to inflict a form of bioterror by introducing salmonella into one of the only restaurants in order to sway a county election. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Rajneeshee_bioterror_attack
Sadly these groups are too common in this part of the country. I was backpacking this past summer into some alpine lakes. To get there we took a "shortcut" up Ruby Creek Road, which took several hours as the road was washed out and it was proving difficult to navigate even with 4 wheel drive vehicles. I didn't realize it at the time, but we were climbing Ruby Ridge, the same Ruby Ridge where Randy Weaver had his stand-off with the feds which resulted in the killing of his wife, teenage son, and a US Marshal. I was a teenager at the time living in eastern Washington and it was all over our news.
Hopefully this will end without anyone getting killed.
