and that's not a surprise ;)
I agree, that with my parents showing my brother and me how to live a normal life led to a predisposition to follow suit. Don't get me wrong. I went out with my friend later on and got drunk off my arse more times than I am willing to admit but I never saw in alcohol what I guess other people see.
Drugs, even tho alcohol is a drug, are a different thing. It's hard in this country to even talk about if we shouldn't or should introduce our kids to light drugs or to have them go in a cop car and visit all the druggies. I know some cop families do that. They would bring their kids or family friends along with them and show them what drugs really do to you.
I am not here to judge what works and what doesn't but I have to admit that at times it crosses my mind and I fear to find the truth about my kids. They are normal great kids that show no signs of wrong-doing, but the society is what it is and we are left with only hope. And sometimes hope is not enough to calm a worried heart.
Should we lock every item in our home? That is not neccessarily going to keep them away from it. They can get everything they want at friends houses. Just like guns. We have no guns and I fear them. Yet I cannot ask my kids friends not to have guns in their home nor I can ask my kids to stay away from their good friend just because their parents lock a gun in their home. I also don't think that most of the time we even know about it.
So we can't protect them and it's hard if not impossible to teach them about drugs. I guess there is no real preentive measure. This seems to be a Case scenario. IF they end up doing it, then we will do something about it then. Otherwise we can continue to hope until we rest our worried heart.
Not an easy job, if you ask me.
