We may already have local detectors of equatorial gravity anomalies. They were reported by Tajmar et al when reproducing experiments first done in Austria were repeated later in South America. They had noted an effect similar to frame dragging when a superconductor ring that had a London Moment established within it was made to suffer additional dw/dt. Monitors sensed an attractive force in the plane of the ring that resembled the effect of gravitomangnetism except that it was 30 orders stronger than that predicted by General Relativity.
While classical GR effects are much too weak to account for the flyby anomaly, it may be worth keeping an eye on these other events that are 30 orders greater. At least at present one should note the unusual coincidence between the new empirical formula which is not derived from known physical principles but is rather phenomenolgical and the similar odd results from superconductors that also detect anomalies with respect to the equator.
