Now close to ruling out earthbound superconductors as having a role in the flyby anomaly just by inspection. If there was a correlation it would appear evident in the inclination of the orbital plane to the equator data. Laboratories are unlikely to relocate their superconductors just to create gremlins in the flyby data.
Superconducting metallic Hydrogen, possibly present in Jupiter and Saturn, is not yet ruled out. Flyby data needs to be re-expressed in solar system coordinates as well as galactic coordinates so that comparisons can be made to rule out planetary sources and galactic Dark Matter sources respectively. Older research to be revisited are Sanchez and Rosales, and the SHLEM jerk paper.
This is important because it removes another instance that would make Earth special with respect to the anomaly and opens up the possibility of looking for the anomaly during flybys of other moons and planets.
In this regard is not only the Rosetta at Mars encounter, but also the recent MESSENGER at Mercury flyby where , by remarkable coincidence at periapsis as in the Earth flybys, there has been invoked a surface gravity anomaly to try to explain the anomaly in the trajectory as deduced from the Dopplers. A definitive sorting out will have to await until MESSENGER goes into orbit around Mercury, and thus loses any remaining hyperbolic velocity that could contribute to the flyby anomaly. If the surface mass density anomaly is not then rediscovered where it is supposed to be, it will then be ruled out as a candidate to explain the recent anomaly at Mercury. Meanwhile there are two more flybys until orbital insertion to view the flyby anomaly again. Now while the fraction of hyperbolic velocity will be greater, this difference compared to Earth will be greatly minimized by orders of magnitude in the recomputed constant of proportionality mostly due to Mercury's slower rate of rotation and a little bit due to the smaller radius. However, where corrections from contributions due to the sun and moon at Earth periapsis were minor, the contribution from the sun at Mercury periapsis will be significantly greater. The frame dragging well at Mercury due to the sun is great enough to be measured by past astonomers to be around 43 seconds of perihelion advance per century which was an early postdiction of General Relativity.
