Understanding the liberal mind is also tricky.
I have a hard time understanding how anyone would not like the picture painted by that little essay. It sounds like 1920s America with a cure for cancer and digital technology. Stuff like this is not meant to be taken seriously.
The problem of course is the reaction to the ideas would not fall neatly into place as we would wish them to do. It is foolish to believe that the actions proposed would result in the ROW seeing their errors and start working to regain our trust and support. That is ridiculous. For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. It would not be pretty. Our fortress would soon be under siege and we would be required to sally forth or fall.
It is idealistic, as are the ideas that propose a beneificent, democratic, wellfare state, totally in harmony with nature and the ROW. One is no different than the other beyond the fact that the conservative diatribe recognizes the sad reality of haves and have nots on an overcrowded planet and it presumes that we need not hang together or hang separately.
We are damned if we do or don't. There is a dearth of rich frontiers and hope.
