How cutting the gas tax puts one more nickel into the pockets of the oil companies.

On the other hand, I've heard a lot of eager liberals call for greatly increasing gas taxes, which leads me to suspect that the well-being of the cash-strapped middle-class consumer is not tops on their list of concerns.
