The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, To minister to the needs of Gods creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us. On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.

You can get cold shivers thinking about what this country would be like if everything was decided by simple majority rule. Our Constitutional government was founded on the idea that some principles should be held above that. It's not a simple matter to amend the Constitution, and thank God for that.

On the other hand, if the system (Congress, courts, etc.) squelches popular will hard enough and in enough areas, you get a kickback. The "proposition" system on the ballots is one result of that, a way to route around the representatives. Some propositions have been good ones. Others have sucked. The whole process is nerve-wracking.

It's a tightrope. "Pure" democracy blows, but mechanisms for reining it in without disenfranchising the population in the process are a work in progress, even now.
