What's really reassuring is that several independent lines of research are converging on the same number (with different uncertainties and error bars, of course). So we know something profound happened about 13.7 billion years ago, although I suspect the "creation of the universe" is only a tip-of-the-iceberg approximation to what really happened (if you don't mind me mixing my metaphors).
