Not just Biblical
We know a massive tsunami wiped out a dozen civilizations in the eastern Mediterranean, including the Minoan, initiating the Greek Dark Ages. And surely the ancients had knowledge of the destruction of Thera in a volcanic caldera explosion, (although we know the population was successfully evacuated), probably the origin of the Atlantis myth.
It may have been an impact event, but volcanic/seismic episodes are also common in that part of the world. Poseidon's nickname was the Earthshaker, becaue of the known correlation of earthquakes and coastal flooding.
