"though if I'm correct that it's a peculiarly human failing"- BUT WHAT IF IT ISN'T.....?

Some may view advertising as a human weakness... but what if the reality is far more sinister? What if advertising is a universal evil- a dark force capable of enslaving sentience- twisting entire civilizations and forcing them into the bondage of all consuming consumerism, to become minions of a meme- and in all the galaxy ONLY humans have chosen to cultivate it, to hone it into an art- even a science?

For centuries we have lived with the dark force- nurturing it, perfecting it... As with any parasite/host relationship there is a constant race on both sides to adapt, as we become more immune to advertising it adapts and becomes stronger (Scientific papers have been written on the evolutionary battles between spam filters and viagra emails). We take our highly evolved resistance for granted... we do not realize that if one of our neanderthal ancestors were exposed to our advertising he would gladly trade his mate and children for a George Foreman Grill (tm)- even though he would not have access to a wall outlet for 20,000 years!!!!

And now we have casually beamed the life force of this supremely evolved monster into the innocent, unsuspecting galaxy- with all the care and forethought of Christopher Columbus sneezing on a native of the new world!

What galactic holocaust have we started? Is this an in-advert-ant armageddon?
