Just say to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax.

By the way, Tom, loved the essay you posted about racial issues
in ST. It made an excellent point about how an alien race has to
essentially "submit" to the larger culture of the United Federation
of Planets in order to be accepted.
The Ferengi may be "loathsome" to some, but unless they are
activley trying to wipe out everyone in the galaxy, they have
the right to be themselves.
Heck, even the Borg thought they were trying to improve the
"quality of life" for everyone in the galaxy, but if it isn't sanctioned
by the UFP, they might as well just pack up and move to another
galaxy. I also thought in "reality" the Borg could have kicked
everyone's butts (or their equivalents) and I also wondered why
they kept bothering with all the biological components when they
should have just gone totally technological. But then we wouldn't
have paid actors in rubber suits now, would we? Yet another
limitation Star Trek has imposed on SF and imagination.
I am now having an even greater admiration for all those species
who thumbed their noses (or their equivalents) at the "glorious"
UFP. Long live the Revolution!
I have read serious talk about humanity and alien races uniting
to work and live together in peace some day, assuming they
exist, of course. This comes from the same people who say that
ETI will look nothing like us, thanks to evolution. Which then
begs the question: If they look nothing like humans, it's a good
chance they won't act or think anything like us, either, so how
likely is a real UFP ever going to be?
