In writing about resource allocation algorithms, I really didn't wrap it up with a bow to relate it to Tech's original post. I reread his post just now, and it's descriptive, all about the behavior of participants in the orgy, but doesn't really address why they're behaving in a patently self-destructive way. The answer is simple, if a bit depressing: The FMC algorithm is all they (us) know. Everyone's behaving in a way they've been taught was correct, and for many, not only correct but ideologically and theologically superior. For many decades, the primary duty of citizenship in America has been consumption.
