"Primary duty of citizenship"

For many decades, the primary duty of citizenship in America has been consumption.

In the U.S., most consumers are also producers.

American citizens, for many decades, have been the most productive on the planet, an annoying fact for those who really don't like talking about where wealth and prosperity actually come from.

This is a recent set of numbers, and that's adjusted for PPP. If you go back a few decades, and use the raw numbers, it gets even more obvious.

The U.S. is well-off because it was earned. What we have consumed is far outweighed by what we have contributed.
