This is what I hate about popular news articles- they avoid discussing the science like the plague...
It HAS to be some sort of induction system since they say "So what we are doing is transmitting energy using the magnetic field not the electric field".
How they do this efficiently and at great distance would be interesting to find out... one issue that immediately comes to mind is orientation issues that should arise- the direction and orientation of the reciever relative to transmitter would be important - or at least that what I think at first glance.
I will try to find out more than that worthless article tells us...
